[PER] Birthing cages

I know many people are against these... I am not looking to cause a
debate. I would like for my girls to be confined to a cage for atleast
their first litters... until they are settled with their little ones.

When I did rescue I remember having mother cats going crazy running
around with their kittens in their mouths. Jumping onto things and
trying to drag their kittens under things. They were confined right away
if they did this, to all I had, a LARGE SIZE dog cage. But, I had to
weave cardboard along the bottom since the kittens could pretty well fit
through the bars. They calmed down quite fast when I did this. I don't
necessarily like the "cage" idea, but on the other hand, if it is the
safest option I will of course do it.

My first litter is not due until the end of June. I am trying to get
inexpensive ideas for a birthing cage. It seems that not many places in
Canada sell cat cages. I have heard that large ferret nation cages are
close to the same size?

Any ideas people can share would be fantastic. I know mommy doesn't
really wander too much the first couple weeks any ways, but I don't want
the cage to be too small.

Thanks in advance!
Cait
