Arja,
OK, I think was just a miscommunication.
The original post was about recognizing one breed that mimics another but is shown as a separate breed. This does not exist in FIFe: the ELH *is* a Persian, it doesn't "mimic" one. They are not shown in separate categories.
To all:
When it comes to the whole CFA "what is a breed" question, the only request I make is that a CFA Allbreed judge should be able to tell what breed a Grand Champion is by handling it, not by having to look in a book or at a pedigree. I don't think that is too much to ask. If a breed is not distinct, it is not a breed. How can we get the public to appreciate our breeds as unique if even WE can't tell them apart? AMEN!
Registering and showing "Exotic Longhairs" in a category separate from Persians is not consistent with that request. AMEN again! I don't want to see a judge present their "Best Black Exotic Longhair" to an audience, followed by their "Best Black Persian" and then have a visiting member of the general public turn to me as a CFA Ambassador and comment, "I don't understand, they look identical to me!" That's simply an embarassment to our hobby.
At least when they can't tell the difference between a Maine Coon and a Norwegian Forest Cat, I can explain the standards to them!
Our bicolor Persians in CFA are all Exotic Longhairs, with their pedigrees conveniently truncated. Read Norah Woodifield's article that explains her ONE breeding program with ONE standard and TWO coat lengths here:

I love the part about how the conformation of the cat follows the standard for British Shorthairs! The Pathfinder cats were mixed litters of British Shorthairs and British Longhairs.
Himalayans are Exotic Longhairs. Chocolate and lilacs are Exotic Longhairs.
The cat we call a "Persian" is a breed well described in the 1800's and early 1900's as a deliberate hybridization between Turkish longhaired cats, Russian longhairs, Maine cats (in the US), and domestic shorthaired cats of Britain. How much longer must this myth about "pure Persians" go on? The are NOT a natural breed. They are the result of deliberate crosses of cats with completely unrelated heritage, artfully developed over 130 years of selective breeding.
No one seems to read past the "pure Persian" part of my posts to see that I KNOW THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS PURE ANYTHING in animal husbandry. My point in calling it pure is the fact that, as you point out, there has been 130 years of selective breeding to achieve something. And with what ever degree of purity we have achieved, why dilute that with more impurities?
