Re: [PER] throw away breed Exotic Long Hair prevented from breeding to persian m

Thank you for the comment below with the heading "Carissa", this addresses issues concerning CFA rules that prevents the beautiful Exotic Long Hair breed, which DOES comply with the breed standard, from being bred back to Persian males. How would it be if every other unoriginal > persian, (which is all persians, thanks for clarifying that) were not able

I would like to ask for an informal "vote" to reply to either or both my email or the group. Thank you for everyones input and the discussions raised. Blessings, Rose.

Carissa,
Degree of relatedness between two populations does not require genetic mapping. The mathematics are quite straightforward and have been established in the scientific literature for decades.

> More fun facts: Those so-called "doll faced" Persians are probably less related to standard show Persians than Exotics are.<

And yet there is no prohibition against breeding them in CFA.
> Most Persian breeders who do not breed silvers and goldens often wonder why Silvers & Goldens are not their own breed.<

And yet there is no prohibition against breeding them to other Persians in CFA (although there is in other associations).

> Most do not come close to meeting the Persian standard.<

There are those in the world that feel that they meet the original intention of the Persian standard and that today's American "ultra-typed" Persian is the one that is not to the standard. There are a lot of top winning cats for which the term "broad" certainly does not apply to their noses!

Your breeding program and criteria for selection may be different from someone elses. But that doesn't necessarily make your cats a different breed.

> They tend to be fine-boned, single coated (or so lacking an undercoat that they look single coated), small, frail, and the head type is not close to what the show Persians have.<

And you are "afraid" of the intrusion of the Exotiic Longhairs? Sound like the cats you've described above are far more of a threat to your breed than any ELH! Let's prohibit the breeding of silvers and goldens to other Persians immediately before they ruin "pure" Persians... like the pointed bicolors, for example.

> They don't breed to other divisions of Persians <

So BREEDERS are capable of keeping their lines pure? Imagine that! I thought it required a mandate from the CFA board ;-)

One of the biggest siamese purists I know shows her CFA registered Siamese in an association where they compete in the same breed as pointed OSH. She breeds how SHE feels the breed should be bred and actively mentors other, new breeders to do the same.

BREEDERS are responsible for deciding what cat is best for their own breeding programs. We should spend less time worrying about what decisions other breeders choose to make for their programs.
